☀️ Sanctuary for Transformation
Light on Kundalini Newsletter
Dear Ones,
As we prepare our bags and begin our journeys toward the sacred sites of Summer Solstice, I find myself reflecting on why these gatherings matter so much.
We belong to one another.
We belong in community.
We belong in these moments of coming together to practice, celebrate, learn, and remember.
There is something profound that happens when people gather with a shared intention.
Something begins to soften.
Something begins to open.
Something begins to heal.
Kundalini Yoga teaches us that the glandular system changes through practice.
Often quietly.
Sometimes unexpectedly.
The body responds long before the mind understands what is happening.
A release occurs.
A shift occurs.
A reorganization begins.
And sometimes we simply have to surrender to it.
We soften.
We receive.
We allow.
Many of these reactions happen below the level of conscious awareness.
Our subconscious begins to reorganize itself.
Meanwhile, life continues.
We still go to work.
We still attend meetings.
We still fulfill our responsibilities.
And often we are asked to carry our healing process into environments that may not fully support it.
The world continues doing what it does.
Rarely does it pause because we are transforming.
This is why sacred space matters.
This is why sanctuary matters.
This is why Summer Solstice matters.
Not because transformation cannot happen elsewhere.
It can.
I remember taking my Level One Teacher Training in Los Angeles.
Profound work can happen in great cities all over the world.
But Summer Solstice offers something unique.
A community sanctuary.
A place intentionally created to support transformation.
A place where many people are simultaneously saying yes to growth.
Yes to healing.
Yes to Spirit.
There is power in that.
There is comfort in that.
There is wisdom in that.
Ram Das Puri has always felt this way to me.
Far enough away from ordinary life to allow something deeper to emerge.
Far enough away to loosen our attachment to habitual reactions and familiar outcomes.
A place where Spirit has room to breathe.
And yet, not everyone can travel.
Not everyone can make the journey.
And that is perfectly okay.
Because sanctuary is not limited by geography.
You can create a ceremonial space wherever you are.
Open a window.
Welcome the air.
Welcome the light.
Welcome the water.
Welcome the joy.
Create a small sacred corner.
Sit quietly.
Listen.
Allow yourself to receive.
Transformation does not require a particular location.
It requires willingness.
The pain will eventually soften.
The body will teach you what it needs.
You will discover your own way of supporting the process.
This is where traditions like Ayurveda offer such wisdom.
This is where nourishment becomes practice.
This is where caring for ourselves becomes sacred.
I spend much of my time in meetings.
Like many of you, I hear the same questions repeatedly:
What should we do?
How should we do it?
And these are important questions.
But perhaps there is an even more important question.
How are you?
How are you sleeping?
How are you digesting?
How are you nourishing yourself?
How are you preparing the food that becomes your body?
How are you tending the life that sustains your energy?
Because stamina matters.
Vitality matters.
Movement matters.
And kindness matters.
When we care for ourselves deeply, we become more available to care for others.
We become capable of reaching the heart of another person because we have first learned how to listen to our own.
This feels important now.
Not someday.
Not eventually.
Now.
There is an urgency to remembering what truly sustains us.
Community.
Dignity.
Trust.
Presence.
Love.
As Summer Solstice approaches, I invite you to join me in whatever way you can.
Gather if you are able.
Create sanctuary if you are not.
Practice.
Celebrate.
Listen.
Allow yourself to be renewed.
Let us raise the vibration together.
Let us strengthen the frequency of unity.
Let us remember that trust is not only a feeling.
Trust is an action.
Trust is a practice.
Trust is the bridge that carries us through transformation.
And perhaps that is the greatest gift of Summer Solstice.
Not simply the light outside us.
But the light we discover within one another.
Sat Nam.
Love,
Karuna
Please Note:
We accidentally used an unedited sample of Erika Randall’s work in our last newsletter. Our sincerest apologies. Here is the edited sample:
From nowhere, a white feather blew onto her flip-flop. She picked it up, remembering how her mother never let her touch feathers as a little girl. “Filthy things,” she had said. “Filthy things from filthy creatures.” Had she ignored her mother’s phobia, what a collection she could have had by now. Certainly enough for wings.

Asparagus Soup with Roasted Radishes
Radishes are an underappreciated vegetable. Cold and spicy when raw, they were always the thing • picked off a salad and set aside. I didn’t really understand their value until I started cooking them—-tasting them caramelized and tender, exploding with flavor after slow-roasting in the oven. They become slightly sweet and easier to digest when cooked.
They’re a great side dish or topping for soup. Here they add great texture and flavor alongside this light and cleansing green soup. While the radishes roast, prepare the soup.
Prep: 10 minutes | Cook: 30 minutes | Yield: 4 servings
Roasted Radishes
6-8 radishes (red or French breakfast, trimmed and quartered
2 tablespoons olive oil
Salt
Asparagus Soup
2 tablespoons ghee or olive oil
1 bunch asparagus, trimmed and chopped
4½ teaspoon ground coriander
Ye teaspoon asafetida
2 cups loosely packed greens (watercress, spinach, green chard)
2-3 cups hot water
1 avocado, pitted
4½ cup loosely packed flat-leaf
Parsley
* teaspoon salt
Microgreens or pea shoots, for gamish
For the radishes: Preheat the oven to 400°F. Place radishes in a baking pan. Toss in olive oil and sprinkle with salt. Roast for 20-25 minutes while making the soup, or until tender and the edges lightly browned and crispy. Remove from oven and serve hot on top of the soup.
For the soup: In a medium pot, heat the ghee on medium heat.
Add the asparagus, coriander, and asafetida, and cook for 5 min-utes, until tender. Reduce to low heat, add the greens, and cook another 2-3 minutes. Transfer to a high-speed blender, add the remaining ingredients, and puree until creamy, adding more water if the consistency is too thick. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. To serve, divide between bowls and garnish with roasted radishes and a handful of microgreens or pea shoots. For a heartier meal, pour soup over a scoop of cooked quinoa or millet.
